Mice can squeeze into spaces as small as a dime. Use steel wool or caulk to plug up these entryways and prevent more mice from sneaking in.
(2) Use Deterrents
Mice strongly dislike certain scents and substances. Place cotton balls soaked in peppermint oil or vinegar around the room to repel mice. Scatter fresh bay leaves or place fabric softener sheets near nesting areas. Coffee grounds, garlic, and cloves also put off mice. With these irritating smells you can compel them to leave the room.

If possible, tightly seal off the room for 1-2 weeks, leaving no gaps for mice to sneak back in. This gives time for mice to relocate their nest to a new area, making them less likely to return once reopened. Combine with deterrents and entry sealing for the most impact.
(5) Use Flushing and Sweeping Techniques
At night, turn on lights and make noise by gently tapping on walls to flush a mouse in hiding out into the open. Use a broom to slowly sweep and herd the mouse toward an open door or window.
